Getting my medicine
Neighborhood uses a list of approved drugs. This is called a “drug formulary.” The list is put together by a group of providers and pharmacists. These are the medicines that Neighborhood will pay for when ordered by your doctor. Your doctor will generally prescribe drugs for you from the list. Click here to see the full list.
Neighborhood has a large formulary. A small number of drugs require prior approval by Neighborhood to make sure use is appropriate. If your doctor prescribes a name-brand drug and the same generic drug is available, Neighborhood will provide the generic version (unless otherwise specified by a doctor). Your doctor may contact Neighborhood for more information about coverage for non-formulary medically necessary drugs. If the request is denied, you or your provider can appeal our decision.
Over-the-counter products - Neighborhood covers many over-the-counter products like Motrin, Claritin, Robitussin, hydrocortisone cream and Tylenol. These are drugs and other items that you can usually buy without a prescription. As an Neighborhood member, you are able to get these items at no cost, with a prescription from your doctor. Supplies are limited to 30 days per refill.
- Over-the-counter medicines can be safe and helpful when used correctly. They should not replace regular contact with your doctor.
- Remember, it is best to work with your primary care doctor to decide the treatment that is right for you and your family.
